Food Trails

Welcome to the Cheshire Food Trail!

For a real taste of Cheshire, tuck into the delicious food and drink produced in the county’s lush pastures. Even a native of the area like me will find plenty of new flavours to enjoy on a tour of this glorious landscape, from farmyard shop to gourmet restaurant.

Our grassy plain provides fodder for sweet milk, tangy cheese and juicy meat, while game thrives in the shelter of our ancient woodlands, and the fruit and vegetables planted in our fields and orchards grow fat in the fertile soil. Savouring these delicious treats as you experience Cheshire life is the very best way to spend time in our beautiful corner of the country.

Use this guide to ensure you get the most out of your visit. Follow its lead to the best places in which to sample Cheshire’s bounty – the hotels and guesthouses, restaurants and cafes, pubs and bars, farm shops, markets, festivals and specialist retailers. Try and buy our local produce and get a flavour of local life as you go about.

From country lane to cobbled high street, this guide offers experiences, established and new, to suit everyone. Take the slow route on a narrowboat journey around our historic canals; step out for an invigorating walk along the Sandstone Trail; or admire the sheer beauty of our elegant stately homes.
Pick up the pace in our bustling market towns with their pretty black-and-white timber buildings.

And spend some time in our graceful county seat, Chester, with its Roman walls, racecourse and cathedral. There’s chic shopping, pampering spas, and cool nightlife, too.

This year, we’ve designed our guide so that you can rustle up the right ingredients for your own menu of experiences, whether you’re here for a self-catering holiday, staying in a cosy B&B or taking a luxurious hotel break. And you can be sure that all the businesses featured are committed to producing or using local produce and offering you a great time.

From the foothills of the Peak District to the Welsh border, after a visit to Cheshire, we reckon you won’t be able to resist coming back for more.
