Islands at Chester Zoo - Best Tourism Marketing Project of the Year Award Winner 2015

Large Attraction of the Year Award Highly Commended 2015

Visit Chester Zoo, the largest zoo in Britain  - a world of wildlife awaits you!

Wildlife Connection is a project led by Chester Zoo to create safe spaces for our most precious local wildlife – to find out more and get involved www.chesterzoo.org/wildlife-connections

Discover more than 20,000 wonderful animals from over 500 different species including some of the most endangered in the world! From the magnificent elephants and rhinos to the delicate butterflies, there is a different animal to see around every corner of this amazing 125 acres of award-winning gardens.

Islands at Chester Zoo is now a very special addition – recreating the amazing tropical environments of six South East Asian islands. Intrepid explorers can discover some of the world’s most amazing animals, all in natural habitats.

Highlights of your expedition will include looking for the Sumatran tiger tracks, a visit to the stunning Bali starling in Nusa Penida and a tree top encounter with an orangutan. You can also take the Lazy River Boat Trip around all six Islands to discover more of the precious wildlife found there.

Enjoy daily animal talks, children’s play areas, themed gardens and a choice of restaurants and kiosks – there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes. Kids and grown-up’s will love the Zoofari monorail as it gives you a giraffe’s eye view of the zoo.

The zoo has a rich heritage – with the founder George Mottershead and his family opening the attraction in the 1930s. With incredible single-mindedness, George drove himself and his family to realise his ambition to transform a ramshackle house on the outskirts of Chester into a unique visitor attraction that would change forever the way zoos kept animals.
