About

***LANTERN MAGIC WINNER OF BEST TOURISM EXPERIENCE OR EVENT OF THE YEAR Marketing Cheshire Annual Awards 2014***

Visit Chester Zoo - a world of wildlife awaits you!

Discover over 12,500 wonderful animals and 400 different species including some of the most endangered in the world!
From the magnificent elephants and rhinos to the delicate butterflies, there is a different animal to see around every corner of this amazing 110 acres of award-winning gardens.

Enjoy daily animal talks, children’s play areas, themed gardens and a choice of restaurants and kiosks – there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes. Kids and grown-ups will love the Zoofari monorail; it gives you a giraffe’s eye view of the zoo. Or, take things a little easier and relax on the Waterbus.

First shown in September 2014, Our Zoo, was a six-part BBC drama following the inspiring story of Chester Zoo’s founder George Mottershead and his family in the 1930s.

With incredible single-mindedness, George Mottershead drove himself and his family to realise his ambition to transform a ramshackle house on the outskirts of Chester into a unique visitor attraction that would change forever the way zoos kept animals.
