Rylands Street
Historic Site
Look up at the lamppost on the left-hand corner of Rylands Street!
This is the Coat of Arms of the Boteler family who were Lords of the Manor of Warrington from the 12th century to 1585, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
The Boteler's developed Warrington's market, the bridge, grammar school and contributed towards the parish church and the friary further down Bridge Street.
As you continue walking down Bridge Street notice the narrow entrance to Hart's Place immediately on your left.
Until 1935 this was a narrow street crowded with slum houses.
