Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre

Set in 50 acres in the heart of Cheshire countryside, the centre offers everything for a perfect day out. Home of the internationally-renowned Cotebrook Shire Horse stud, the centre has been breeding prize-winning shires for over 40 years and they form the centrepiece of the centre. The Shire Horse is the largest breed of horse in the world and we welcome you to meet our Stallions, Mares and Foals and learn about this fabulas Old English Breed from our friendly and informative staff who will be pleased to share their knowledge. We have up to 20 horses and youngsters at anytime for you to meet.

As well as the shire horses, there is a fantastic selection of British animal and birdlife, both wild and domesticated, including many rare breeds.
Why not walk around the centre and visit the farmyard and see large pigs and free range piglets, sheep, otters, pole cats, foxes, red deer, hens, ducks, swans, and many more.
We have 50 acres over which you can roam.Stroll around our nature trail and view the trout lake from above or wander further afield to see more horses and red deer.

The Lakeside Cafe with balcony over the lake offers tranquil views while you enjoy a light lunch, traditional cream tea or a delicious homemade cake with one of our speciality coffees by our huge cosy log burning fire, then browse around our gift shop which has a wide variety of country gifts.

Picnic area - Bring your own picnic and rest for a while overlooking the duck pond. You may have to share your picnic though with the ducks and hens.

Learn about the history of the Shire Horse in our exhibition centre and measure your height against our lifesize Shire height chart or learn how to plait for a show.
