Congleton Museum is a local history museum run by volunteers as a charitable trust.

Touch screens and talking heads help to tell the story of Congleton from prehistoric times, through the English civil War and the heyday of the textile industry to the Second World War.

Exhibits include a loom and a life size model of a fustian cutter at work, along with the tools of her trade. Fustian cutting revived the fortunes of Congleton's textile trade in the 1860s after the decline of the silk industry.

There are regular special exhibitions upstairs and a monthly programme of Sunday afternoon history walks. The education service offers a comprehensive programme of history workshops, tours and talks to school and community groups.

There is a shop which includes a wide selection of souvenirs and local history books, including a series of booklets unique to the museum on various aspects of Congleton's history, including the textile industry.

The Museum is open 12pm - 4.30pm Tuesday to Friday and Sunday. 10am - 4.30pm on Saturdays. There is a small admission charge.
