  • Facilities for Hearing Impaired Visitors - We have a “loop system” installed at some of our main customer contact areas, including our gates. Simply look out for the blue and white logo
  • Guide Dogs Permitted - Guide dogs and sensing/hearing dogs are very welcome at the Zoo. However, we do ask that they avoid our Monkey, Chimpanzee and Elephant enclosures.

Cheetahs – The world’s fastest land mammal, the cheetah, has returned to the collection. View them from the new Bats Bridge!

Philippine Crocodiles – This freshwater crocodile, found only in the Philippine islands, is one of the most threatened crocodile species in the world. Their new enclosure is in the Tropical Realm.
For spectacular colour and a whole new sensory experience, visit the Butterfly House and Gardens home to up to 30 different species of exotic and native species.

The 110-acre zoo is open all year from 10am daily (except Last entry and closing times vary with the seasons.

Car parking is free.

Road Directions

Follow the brown Chester Zoo signs from M56, jct 14; M53, jct 12.

The zoo is also clearly signed on the A41 Chester road.

Public Transport Directions

From Chester Main Line Station: Take taxi (app. 2 miles), or bus to Town Hall bus exchange. Mon - Sat, First Crosville number 1 half hourly to main entrance, or number 4, half hourly to pedestrian entrance. Bank Hols, 1 only. Suns and Bank Hols, Arriva 411, 412 to main entrance.

From Merseyrail Bache Station: First Crosville 1, (Mon-Sat and Bank Hols) from Mill Lane or Arriva (Sun and Bank Hols only) 411, 412 from Liverpool Road. All Arriva Trains Merseyside manned stations sell combined rail/bus/zoo tickets.

From Rivacre, Ellesmere Port and Cheshire Oaks: First Crosville 4, half hourly to Pedestrian Entrance (Mon-Sat).

From Liverpool, Birkenhead and Ellesmere Port: First Crosville 1 half hourly to Main Entrance (Mon-Sat), Arriva 411, 412 half hourly to Main Entrance (Sun and Bank Hols).
