Getting to Chester


The nearest airports to Chester are Manchester International and Liverpool John Lennon, which are both about 40 minutes by road.

By Road

By Rail

Chester is now only two hours from London where you can connect to local Arriva Trains services to the North Wales Coast. Crewe is the northern hub of the rail network with regular connecting services throughout the region. There are inward services from London, Scotland, Derby, Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Travelling to Chester by rail is an easy, relaxing, experience, with high speed trains leaving London every hour. Virgin Train's Best Fare Finder will give you the best value fares to Chester if you are flexible about when you can travel.

If travelling from the Wirral or Merseyside area, Merseyrail operates regular services to Chester. To book online or just to view Merseyrail schedules, visit the Merseyrail website

For hourly trains to and from Manchester and Chester throughout the day from Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sunday plus the popular Music Trains visit The Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership.

By Bus

Chester is well served by local bus services and if you 60 or over, or "eligible disabled", your National Bus Pass will give you free off-peak bus travel throughout the county.

Airport transfer mini-bus services (minimum of seven) are available from BusyBus with their dedicated luxury executive vehicles. BusyBus also operate sightseeing tours throughout the area including North Wales.

Chester has its own City Centre Bus which picks up and drops off at the Railway Station, New Bus Interchange and Foregate Street stop AA (as of 5th June 2017). This bus is charged at £1 each way.

By Coach

All National Express services in Chester will depart from the new Bus Interchange on Gorse Stacks Stand N from 5th June 2017.

Chester's Official Visitor Information Centre at the Town Hall is the main ticket agency for National Express in Chester. Tel: 0845 647 7868.


Little Roodee Coach park will be closed from Tuesday 28th April until Sunday 10th May inclusive because of the annual fun fair


Coaches are will allowed to park free of charge on the Wrexham Road Park and Ride site.
