Find out more about the top producers working in the shadow of the Pennines on this 60-mile tour of the easternmost area of the county.
Begin your journey at The Roebuck at Mobberley, a country inn serving flavours and produce from the region with a menu that satisfies traditional and contemporary tastes. Then make the seven-minute journey by car to the Cheshire Smokehouse, where meat, fish, cheese and more are smoked on these premises. Stock up in the top-quality food emporium.
A short ten minute journey will take you to Horseshoe Farm, a favourite supplier to local restaurants and
shops. You, too, can buy their produce straight from the farm shop. It’s just five minutes from here to
Alderley Edge Hotel, where chef Chris Holland prepares seasonal dishes using locally-sourced produce – some straight from the hotel garden.
Next stop, Lyme Park, a half-hour drive away. This audacious Italianate palace has a restaurant serving
venison from the estate.
Another 20 minutes in the car will bring you to Harrop Fold Farm. Guests staying at the 5 star B&B enjoy fresh food reared and grown here. Gareth Davis is at the helm at The Lord Clyde, nine minutes further on. He has struck out on his own to serve locally sourced fare at this pub-restaurant.
A half-hour drive will bring you to Little Moreton Hall, an ancient timber house that is a national gem. The food in its restaurant is sourced close to home, including in the hall gardens. Your final stop is Jodrell Bank, approximately 20 minutes by car. The famous Lovell Radio Telescope has a little café serving homemade food.
