Chester Walking Trail

• Start your day at Green Bough Hotel and Olive Tree Restaurant on Hoole Road. These luxury lodgings are complemented by a smart fine-dining restaurant.

• Then begin your walking tour on Northgate Street, which traces one of the original main routes in this former Roman fort, atJoseph Benjamin, a stylish restaurant and delicatessen set in the city wall.

• Now head east along the road to The Cheese Shop. Carole Faulkner left the restaurant business to set up this specialist shop, which she fills with the very best cheeses from Cheshire and further afield.

• Continue towards the city centre where you will find the The Coach House, a nineteenth century coaching inn, situated next to the architecturally acclaimed Town Hall and fascinating cathedral.

• Continue to Corks Out on Watergate Street in one of Chester’s famous Medieval Rows. Ask the friendly staff at this independent wine merchant to help you make an informed choice.

• Go now to Eastgate Street, where you’ll find the imposing black-and-white façade of The Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa. Book a table at its Michelin-starred restaurant, Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor.

• Work up a thirst heading to Lower Bridge Street to find the premises of The Brewery Tap, a pub run by The Spitting Feathers Brewery in an historic Jacobean great hall.

• Next, cross the River Dee to The Ship Inn.  Upstairs is the contemporary glass restaurant with an open kitchen and stunning views of the River Dee.

• Turning back across the river, turn left before the bridge and continue walking up the hill, past the remains of Chester Castle on the right.  At the top of the hill, cross the road and you will be at ABode Chester, with Michael Caines at the helm of all their dining experiences, visitors can enjoy a champagne cocktail or a seven-course grazing platter with spectacular views of the Racecourse.

• Finally leave ABode Chester and turn right head towards the racecourse. Staying on the roman walls, continue for a short distance and on the left you will find 1539 Restaurant & Bar with the most spectacular views across the racecourse.  The restaurant has won many accolades including the Taste Cheshire Award at the Annual Cheshire Tourism Awards in 2010.
